Welcome to the AURORA Connected Vehicle Test Bed

The AURORA Connected Vehicle Testbed is an infrastructure project that:

  • has been funded by Transport Canada, the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and the Canada Foundation for Innovation
  • is hosted at UBC
  • involves port authorities, terminal operators, freight handlers, ITS developers, ACE manufacturers, and government agencies
  • is advancing the use of wireless technology for freight security and efficiency
  • is establishing best practices for use of wireless technology in Canada’s ITS Architecture

Current collaborators include:

  • Transport Canada,
  • BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure,
  • UBC Transportation,
  • Rogers Communications,
  • British Columbia Automobile Association,
  • EasyMile,
  • FP Innovations.



  • AURORA will permit a variety of connected vehicle technologies to be evaluated under controlled conditions. Academic and industry collaborators are invited to help us develop the testbed architecture and pursue CV projects.




    The sites marked in:

    • red are currently installed.
    • yellow are currently being installed.
    • blue w ill be installed in Fall 2019.
    • green will be installed in Spring 2020.

    The Roadside portion of the testbed will comprise both enhanced roadside units that include interfaces to the traffic signal controller, IP cameras, software defined radio modules, as well as dual-mode C-V2X/DSRC RSUs and Wi-Fi BRs, and basic roadside units that include only dual-mode C-V2X/DSRC RSUs and Wi-Fi BRs.
