MCLD 442 - RSL Research Office

Floor plan of MCLD 442

Description

Our Research Office is located in MCLD 442. The 20' x 30' room is protected by an alarm system provided by UBC Secure Access. Major facilities include nine Hayworth cubicles for use by Prof. Michelson, PhD students and senior MASc students, storage cabinets, a CAD workstation for use with CST Microwave Studio, Wireless InSite and other Electronic Design Automation (EDA) software, 12' of white boards, a mini-refrigerator and a microwave oven, and a Canadian Springs cold water dispenser.

History

Between 1964 and 1980, MCLD 442 served as graduate student office and laboratory space in antenna and microwave engineering. Between 1980 and 1986, it was the home of the Data Communications Group's research laboratory. Between 1986 and 1996, it was the home of the Clinical Engineering Group. From 1996 until 2000, it was used as storage space. In 2000, it was refurbished and from 2000 until 2005, it served as the ECE Student Services Office. In 2005, the Student Services Office moved to the new Kaiser building and the space was taken over by the Radio Science Lab. From 1964-2005, a spiral staircase connected MCLD 442 to the east wing of the penthouse. In Summer 2005, Scott Construction removed the spiral staircase, replaced it with a code-compliant stairway and re-painted the room. In Fall 2005, Brooks Corning installed none Hayworth cubicles and the first graduate students moved into their new office space. In Spring 2008, a pair of storage cabinets were installed against the east wall. In Spring 2011, the CAD workstation was moved to a new desk on the west wall.
